Lai Peng is a Senior Principal Medical Social Worker at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID). She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Singapore, obtained a Master of Social Work from Washington University and a PhD in Social Work from the National University of Singapore.
She leads the Care & Counselling Department at NCID and has been very involved in HIV work. She initiated the early referral of all newly diagnosed HIV patients and developed the HIV Positive Prevention Programme which has been adopted by other hospitals in Singapore. She was also involved in the COVID-19 pandemic as well as other pandemics such as H1N1 and monkey pox where she and her team provided psychosocial care for patients and their families.
Her research interests are HIV, stigma and discrimination as well as population health. She has received several research grants including the NMRC New Investigator Grant and presently has a research collaboration with Kirby Institute Australia. In addition, she has been involved in educating Social Work undergraduates and graduates at the National University of Singapore.
